The Dunure Inn: Started life as housing for fishermen. The fishing boats landed their catch of herring daily on the quay up until the mid 1960’s. The picturesque harbour is now owned by the Dunure Harbour Committee who work tirelessly to maintain and preserve it. Although there is no longer commercial fishing from the harbour, it still remains busy with pleasure boats and a few local lobster boats. In the 1960’s the ground floor of the Inn became The But n Ben tearoom which remained until the 1970’s when it became The Anchorage, a well known watering hole for locals & visitors alike. The Dunure Inn opened in October 2006 following extensive refurbishment & now offers comfortable & inviting surroundings which combine contemporary & traditional features where you can enjoy a drink or a meal. There are 6 bedrooms (all en-suite with TV & tea, coffee making facilities), 3 of these are suites which can sleep up to 4 people. All rooms with the exception of the 2 cottage suites have stunning views over the picturesque harbour and along the Ayrshire coast.

Dunure Castle:
The ruins of Dunure Castle lie in a quiet location overlooking Ayr Bay in the Firth of Clyde, on the west coast of Scotland. The original structure was built before the 13th century, but the remains of the castle are of a later period. The castle was the ancient seat of the Kennedys of Carrick, who were granted the lands in 1357. In 1509, David Kennedy was created 1st Earl of Cassillis. The 4th Earl of Cassillis, Gilbert Kennedy, entertained Mary from 4th to 7th August 1563 during her third progress, which took her to the west of the country.
